The goal of the Professional Driver Trainer National Certification Program is to make sure that experienced Driver Trainers in Canada are recognized to the National Occupational Standards. This is a national certification which will help establish standards for professional practice and safety across the industry, increase recognition of Driver Trainers positively and influence the direction of the profession.

There are three types of certification. However, before you begin, it is important to verify that you meet the criteria:

In-Class certification prerequisites:

• A minimum of 1,500 hours of verifiable in-class training experience
• The successful completion of a recognized train-the-trainer program
• The successful completion of TOWES for professional driver trainers (if you wish to familiarize yourself with the TOWES test, please click on http://measureup.towes.com. You may then contact the TOWES Distributors to set-up an appointment for the testing).

In-Cab certification prerequisites:

• A minimum of 1,500 hours of verifiable in-cab training experience
• A minimum of five years’ driving experience
• A Class1/A driver’s license
• The successful completion of a recognized train-the-trainer program

Both In-Class and In-Cab certification prerequisites:

• A minimum of 3,000 combined hours of verifiable in-class and in-cab training experience
• A minimum of five years’ driving experience
• A Class1/A driver’s license
• The successful completion of a recognized train-the-trainer program

The application fee for the Professional Driver Trainer Certification Program is:

• In-Class - $300
• In-Cab - $300
