Leading Programs Require the Best Instructors


Your experience and guidance as a professional instructor will give entry-level drivers the knowledge and skills they need to become the professional drivers that our industry needs. To deliver Earning Your Wheels training material, professional truck driver instructors must:

  • Hold a provincial driver instruction certificate/licence (where available), or have a minimum of two years teaching experience, preferably in the trucking environment
  • Have completed a minimum of five years of in-truck experience, or have an acceptable mix of experience and training
  • Have successfully completed a Train the Instructor workshop provided by the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council (CTHRC)
  • Attend a CTHRC Train the Trainer workshop every three years

 

The Support of Coaches


As a CTHRC certified professional truck driver coach you will be helping the trucking industry to train and retain the qualified drivers it needs. Students enrolled in Earning Your Wheels must complete four weeks of supervised work experience, logging 100 hours of time behind the wheel with a qualified coach. A professional truck driver coach is defined as a professional Class 1 driver possessing the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years commercial driving experience (articulated vehicle)
  • Experience with both Canadian and US routes (if applicable to the carrier)
  • An abstract with no more than two moving violations in the last 12 months, with no more than a cumulative of three violations in the last three years, and a zero tolerance for alcohol in the last three years
  • A reputation for being a reliable employee
  • Able to work well with others
  • Possess a professional attitude
  • Able to communicate well both orally and in writing
  • Is patient, even tempered and committed to the program
  • Has the ability to impart knowledge to others
  • Has been recommended by an employer or contractor

A professional truck driver coach is employed by a company which partners with CTHRC accredited training institutes for the supervised work experience component of Earning Your Wheels. The coach will participate in a two-day training session organized by the accredited school.
