Connecting Essential Skills and Safety


The Essential Skills as a Predictor of Safety Performance report clearly establishes a direct link between these basic skills and improvements in safety performance.

To overcome hurdles identified in the report, the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council (CTHRC) developed customized assessment and upgrading tools for the trucking industry. These tools include examples of real work situations that drivers, dispatchers, driver trainers and safety professionals will face in their jobs.

The resulting Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES) establishes a person's current ability to read documents, complete work related forms and work with numbers. If the test identifies a need to upgrade Essential Skills, you can use one of the 10 upgrading modules unique to your requirements.
