Earn the certification. Get the recognition.

Step 3 – Submit a Portfolio and Training Video

The final step in earning your certification requires that you submit samples of material you use to train.

Please submit the following documents to the CTHRC for evaluation:

  • Upload a list of the textbook titles and audio-visual materials you use (including ISBN) and all safety notes.
  • Using the template provided (Lesson Plan), complete a detailed lesson plan for either an in-class lecture or in-cab demonstration and upload it using the upload area below.
  • Upload 3 – 4 samples of teaching materials that you use, such as handouts, diagrams, charts, graphs, PowerPoint files, pictures, or lecture notes.
  • Upload a copy of your TOWES certification
  • Upload 1 sample of evaluation tools:
    • A test you use In-Class or
    • A performance checklist you use In-Cab.
  • Record a 20-minute video of you giving a lesson and mail the CTHRC. Your teaching will be assessed using the enclosed lesson plan evaluation form, which you can use as a guide when preparing and delivering the lesson. The lesson video can be in any video format and should show you incorporating the major elements of your lesson plan.

Part of the assessment may include a teleconference with the CTHRC review board in which you will be asked for your rationale behind the lesson plan.

The CTHRC review board meets twice a year in February and October. All eligible applications will be evaluated at that time and driver trainers will be contacted several weeks after those time periods about their results.

Please note that you have one year from the time you register for the Professional Driver Trainer Certification to upload the required material.
